The Central Marin Police Authority arrested three juveniles Oct. 14 in a Corte Madera retail theft investigation and recovered more than $6,000 in merchandise reported stolen from Lululemon at The Village at Corte Madera, the agency said in an Oct. 16 press release.
Officers responded to the shopping center at about 2:40 p.m. after a witness reported seeing several people flee a retail store with merchandise believed to be stolen and leave in a black Hyundai. A Lululemon investigator confirmed the store had been targeted, CMPA said.
Police said investigators linked the suspects and their vehicle to a separate theft at the same shopping center on Oct. 11. The agency described the juveniles as suspects in a series of organized retail thefts across the Bay Area.
CMPA shared suspect and vehicle information with the California Highway Patrol, the San Francisco Police Department and the Berkeley Police Department, which was conducting a related investigation.
San Francisco officers located the Hyundai using automated license plate recognition technology. When they tried to stop the car, the driver did not pull over, police said.
A pursuit followed.
After officers lost sight of the vehicle, SFPD deployed a drone, KRON4 reported. The drone operator watched three people exit the Hyundai with suspected stolen merchandise and get into a rideshare vehicle. San Francisco officers stopped the rideshare and detained all three suspects, according to police.
The juveniles, one boy and two girls, were transferred to CMPA custody and booked into Marin County Juvenile Hall in connection with the theft investigation. CMPA, which serves Larkspur, Corte Madera and San Anselmo, did not identify them by name in its release.
Officers recovered 45 pairs of Lululemon leggings and five jackets with a reported combined retail value of more than $6,000, according to Patch.
In its Oct. 16 release, CMPA said it was working with other Bay Area agencies to examine whether the juveniles were connected to additional thefts or the resale of stolen goods. The agency said the investigation remained open.
