Filmmaker Cassidy Friedman and community activist Amber Allen-Peirson are scheduled to premiere their documentary "The Unrooted Bloom" at the Lark Theater in Larkspur on Saturday, Oct. 10, as part of the Mill Valley Film Festival (MVFF), according to the city’s event announcement. The screening begins at 4:45 p.m. Pacific.

The 82-minute film traces Allen-Peirson's exploration of her identity as a biracial woman in Marin County. It blends archival footage with poetry and scenes from her life, according to the MVFF program listing.

Allen-Peirson is also a poet and educator. She and Friedman co-directed the 2023 short "Ambassadors of Hope," whose trailer received the 2024 Dan Eldon Activist Award, according to award organizer MY HERO. Friedman's earlier feature "Circles" (2018) is distributed by Lionsgate, according to Stories Matter Media, which he founded.

After Saturday's screening, Niema Jordan, executive director of Cinemama, is expected to moderate a Q&A. Cinemama and Marin Buzz are community partners for the event, according to the MVFF program listing.

The MVFF listing showed standby status as of Oct. 9. That means tickets are currently unavailable, though the festival may release more and will operate an in-person standby/rush line.

The Mill Valley Public Library website also lists a screening and discussion at 1 p.m. Pacific Sunday, Oct. 11.
