Duane Betts, the 47-year-old guitarist carrying his late father's Southern rock legacy forward, plays Sweetwater Music Hall on Friday, Aug. 28, with his band Palmetto Motel, according to the venue's event listing.

The two-night stand at the Mill Valley venue marks a tour stop behind Betts' second solo album, Isle of Hope, a 10-song record cut in five days with nine-time Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb. A second show follows Saturday, Aug. 29. Doors open at 7 p.m. both nights, with music at 8 p.m. Both shows are all ages.

Oakland singer Miko Marks opens both evenings.

The album's title came from a road sign near the Georgia studio where Betts and Cobb recorded. "Right before you would get to the studio you'd get to this little bridge and there was a sign that read, 'You are now entering Isle of Hope' … That was the impetus for the title, but I also thought it was a very appropriate title given the times we're in, given [all the day-to-day] anxiety," Betts told the Pacific Sun.

The record lands at a personal crossroads. Betts' father, Dickey Betts, co-founded the Allman Brothers Band and died April 18, 2024. Duane Betts has 10 years of sobriety. The track "Winners of War" deals directly with memories of addiction, he said.

Cobb, whose credits include Brandi Carlile, Jason Isbell and Chris Stapleton, connected with Betts through friend and guitarist J.D. Simon, who plays bass in Cobb's studio band. Betts said Cobb helped him feel comfortable recording live vocals, giving the songs what he called "an immediacy."

Before going solo, Betts toured as a guitarist with Dawes and with his father's band Great Southern. He also co-leads the Allman Betts Band alongside Devon Allman, which plays an annual three-week tribute to the Allman Brothers Band catalog every December.

Marks, who has made four appearances at the Grand Ole Opry, brings her own weight to the bill. In an April 2026 Mercury News profile, she described music as her therapy and healing space.

At a Los Angeles show on Friday, Aug. 21, fans heard new Isle of Hope material alongside songs from Betts' 2023 debut Wild & Precious Life and Allman Brothers Band covers. Betts said the Sweetwater sets may also include songs by Bob Dylan, Neil Young, the Grateful Dead and Wilco.

Tickets are available through Sweetwater Music Hall. Sweetwater Music Hall is at 19 Corte Madera Ave. in Mill Valley.
