Mill Valley residents can clear out old computers, monitors, and other electronics for free on Friday, July 31, when a drive-thru e-waste collection returns to the Community Center parking lot at 180 Camino Alto.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. No appointment is needed. Just drive up, hand off your e-waste, and go.

Mill Valley Recreation is hosting the collection in partnership with the Conservation Corps of the North Bay, a nonprofit that pairs youth workforce development with environmental conservation. CCNB is a state-certified e-waste collector (California CEWID #105496), funded by CalRecycle to provide free collection services across Marin and Sonoma counties, according to the organization's website.

The electronics collected won't simply disappear into a dumpster. CCNB partners with Electronic Recyclers International, which holds top-tier certifications for data destruction and environmentally responsible recycling, according to CCNB. In its most recent reporting year, CCNB's youth corps diverted 601,585 pounds of e-waste from landfills, the organization reports.

What's accepted and what's not

The city's event listing specifies that hazardous waste and household appliances will not be accepted at the July 31 collection. For a full list of accepted e-waste items, residents can visit ccnorthbay.org/events/recycling-specifics.

The city describes the collection as a biannual event. A second date is already on the calendar: Friday, November 13, at the same time and location.
