Larkspur residents can catch a free live concert steps from downtown when singer-songwriter Matt Jaffe takes the stage at Bon Air Center's Rhythm & Brews series on Thursday, Aug. 20 at 5 p.m.

The show runs until 7 p.m. outside Gott's at the firepit, 50 Bon Air Center. No tickets needed.

Bon Air Center and Bread and Roses Presents, the Marin-based nonprofit arts organization, are co-hosting the event. On its events page, Bon Air invited neighbors to come out for craft beer, good weather, and live music.

Jaffe, a San Francisco songwriter, was discovered playing open mics around the Bay Area by Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads, who produced his first album when Jaffe was 16. He dropped out of college to pursue music full time and has since toured with Blues Traveler and Wilco, co-written with Tom Higgenson of Plain White T's, and is preparing to release his ninth album, "Station Eleven."

He's no stranger to Marin. Jaffe sits on the board of Bread & Roses Presents, the concert's co-presenter, and has been gigging locally this summer. In a May 2024 profile in the San Francisco Chronicle, Bread & Roses staff member Alexis Harte said Jaffe "nails 'em in going in with just an acoustic guitar" when describing his performances at youth detention centers.

Bread & Roses Presents was founded in 1974 by the late Marin singer-songwriter and activist Mimi Fariña. The nonprofit brings live music to people in institutional settings across the Bay Area.

Jaffe has had seizures since 2015 and uses his music to connect local and national epilepsy communities.
