Larkspur residents can pick up tips on cutting energy bills and reducing waste at a free lunch-and-learn workshop Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Larkspur Library.

The City of Larkspur, Resilient Neighborhoods and the Larkspur Library are co-hosting "Lunch & Learn: Sustainable Home Basics" from noon to 1 p.m. Subtitled "8 Steps to Reduce Climate Pollution and Create a More Sustainable Future," the one-hour session is open to Marin renters and homeowners. Attendees can join in person or online. In-person guests get a free lunch catered by local restaurant Insalatas.

City Manager Dan Schwarz highlighted the event in a Sept. 10 sustainability newsletter. The workshop covers practical steps to reduce waste, save water and energy, and lower household climate impact. Attendees will also hear about local resources and tools that can save money on home upgrades, plus a preview of Resilient Neighborhoods' five-session Climate Action Workshop program.

Resilient Neighborhoods, a Marin-based nonprofit, runs a free Climate Action Workshop series for county residents and workers, with a preview offered at Thursday's session.

A Larkspur resident named Katie, who completed the Resilient Neighborhoods program, said in the city's newsletter that the experience helped her follow through on long-term goals. "My husband and I just got solar and battery storage at our house … and now our entire home generates clean power, and we no longer pay electricity bills!" she said.

In-person spaces are limited. Registration is free but required for both in-person and online attendance through a sign-up form linked in the city's newsletter.

The Larkspur Library itself doubles as a sustainability showcase. The building runs on solar panels, a solar-powered battery, all-electric systems and heat pumps, and offers eight Level 2 electric vehicle chargers. Outside, a Native Habitat Garden maintained by Refugia Marin and community volunteers features California native plants.

The Larkspur Climate Action Forum holds its next meeting Wednesday, Oct. 14.
