Firefighters contained a residential fire in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area early Friday, Sept. 4, after flames spread from an exterior shed to an occupied home.

Southern Marin Fire Protection District crews responded at approximately 1:11 a.m. to the 800 block of Menges Street near Smiley Street, according to a district press release. They found advanced fire conditions in the shed, with fire already extending into the adjacent residence.

Two adults and one juvenile were inside. All three evacuated safely.

No civilian injuries were reported.

Crews extinguished the blaze within approximately 20 minutes, and the fire was declared contained at about 1:42 a.m. Marin County Fire Department and Central Marin Fire Authority assisted as part of a first-alarm response. After knocking down the flames, crews remained on scene to check for hot spots.

Battalion Chief Adam Vollmer of the Southern Marin Fire Protection District served as incident commander.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation. The district said additional information will be released when available.
