Mill Valley residents can bring questions directly to Mayor Max Perrey, Vice Mayor Caroline Joachim and Assemblymember Damon Connolly at an outdoor coffee chat on Oct. 6.

The gathering runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Depot Plaza picnic benches, 87 Throckmorton Ave., in the heart of downtown Mill Valley. The city invited residents to stop by, share what's on their minds or simply get to know their local and state representatives in a casual setting, according to its official announcement.

Depot Plaza is a regular venue for city events, including Concerts in the Plaza and the monthly First Tuesday ArtWalk. The coffee chat is timed to that ArtWalk, a monthly evening hosted by the Mill Valley Arts Commission featuring work by Bay Area artists at galleries and spaces throughout downtown. Both events run the same hours, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The ArtWalk takes place on the first Tuesday of every month except January.

Connolly represents Assembly District 12, which covers all of Marin County and Southern Sonoma County. He is in his final months in the Assembly after leaving the seat to run for State Senate District 2 in the Nov. 3 general election, Patch reported. In a Sept. 2 press release marking the end of his last legislative session, Connolly said he had sent 12 bills to the governor and called it his goal to ensure residents' voices are heard. The Oct. 6 chat gives Mill Valley residents a chance to speak with him before he leaves the Assembly.

The city has held similar informal gatherings before.

In April 2024, then-Mayor Urban Carmel and Councilmember Perrey hosted a community chat at City Hall. The Oct. 6 event moves the format outdoors and adds a state legislator to the table.

Residents who cannot attend can reach Perrey at [email protected], Joachim at [email protected] or Connolly through connolly.asmdc.org/contact.
