Residents along a stretch of Ethel Avenue in Mill Valley should prepare for periodic weekday road closures starting Tuesday, Sept. 1, when the city begins an eight-week road stabilization project.

The work covers Ethel Avenue roughly between addresses 389 and 416, according to the city's project page. Crews will repair one existing retaining wall and build two new ones to stabilize the roadway, then install guardrail and lay a 2-inch asphalt overlay.

The project also includes a water pollution control plan and traffic control measures during construction.

The road will close periodically between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, throughout the eight-week build. The city has not yet specified which days will require full closure versus partial access. Detour routes will be posted during closures, and emergency vehicles will have access at all times.

Weather permitting, the project is expected to finish by late October.

The city awarded the $930,025 construction contract to LVI Engineering Inc., according to bid results posted on the project page.
