Nearly 3,000 customers near Kentfield lost power Wednesday, Aug. 5, in an unplanned midday outage that PG&E had not yet explained.
The utility's outage map showed 2,866 customers without electricity starting around 1:10 p.m., according to Patch. PG&E estimated restoration by approximately 6 p.m., projecting about five hours without power.
The cause remains unknown.
PG&E provided no additional details beyond the customer count and estimated restoration time. The utility had not confirmed whether service was restored by the 6 p.m. estimate as of Wednesday afternoon.
Outage borders Larkspur and Corte Madera
Kentfield is an unincorporated community of about 6,808 residents, according to the 2020 census, bordered to the south by Larkspur. That places the outage zone directly adjacent to both Larkspur and Corte Madera. With 2,866 customers affected, the disruption hit a substantial share of the community's households.
Whether the affected area extended into either town could not be confirmed from available information.
The outage was unplanned and unrelated to a Public Safety Power Shutoff. PG&E had included fewer than 10 Kentfield households in a planned PSPS event on July 15, but Wednesday's incident was a separate, far larger disruption.
Corte Madera is currently working to bury power lines on Christmas Tree Hill to reduce fire risk and improve grid resilience in that neighborhood.
