A Marin County judge revoked bail entirely for Mill Valley youth basketball coach Charles Ramon Huff on Thursday, July 30, rejecting his attorney's bid to lower or eliminate the $250,000 amount and instead ordering him held with no possibility of release.

Huff, 57, faces three felony counts of lewd acts upon a minor with a special allegation of being in a position of trust, as we reported July 30. He is now scheduled to enter a plea Tuesday, Aug. 4, in Marin County Superior Court.

Judge Ahtossa Fullerton said she was concerned Huff could still contact the the girl, a Novato teen who was 15 when the abuse allegedly occurred.

"This is a minor who was greatly traumatized by what allegedly happened," Fullerton said, citing the Novato police investigation.

Huff's public defender, Michael Schroettner, had asked Fullerton to reduce bail or release Huff with a GPS monitor, arguing his client posed no danger and faced financial hardship. Schroettner also contended the original $250,000 bail was inflated because police initially arrested Huff on suspicion of kidnapping, a charge the Marin County District Attorney's Office ultimately did not file.

Prosecutor Annie Laurie Abriel countered that Huff abused the girl multiple times and exploited her parents' trust, according to the Marin Independent Journal, which covered the hearing. Fullerton sided with the prosecution.

Novato police arrested Huff in Santa Rosa on July 25. A probable cause statement by Officer Steven Asnault alleges the crimes occurred between October 2025 and May 2026. Asnault wrote that the girl the girl knew Huff through his coaching at basketball camps and alleged that Huff forcefully groped and kissed her at her home while her parents were away. Huff is also accused of grabbing the girl by the wrist and pulling her into another room to avoid being seen.

Huff worked with the North Bay Basketball Academy, which offers youth programs from kindergarten through high school. The academy placed him on indefinite administrative leave after his arrest and said the alleged incident did not involve a program participant. In an email to families, the organization said every coach, including Huff, had undergone a comprehensive background check with LiveScan.

Novato Police Sgt. Wes Carroll told ABC7 the alleged abuse did not occur at an official facility, court, or field where organized sports take place. Police have said additional victims are possible and urged anyone with information to contact the Novato Police Department, referencing Case #NP26-1333.

Schroettner declined to comment after the hearing. Huff's plea hearing is set for Tuesday, Aug. 4.
