Seven candidates are competing for three Larkspur City Council seats this fall. Voters will get two chances to hear from them in person before the election.

The Larkspur Chamber of Commerce, Larkspur Community Foundation, Lark Theater and the League of Women Voters of Marin County are hosting candidate forums on Wednesday, Sept. 9, and Thursday, Oct. 1. Both run from 5:30 to 7 p.m. City Manager Dan Schwarz announced the events in a city update on Aug. 31.

The Sept. 9 forum takes place at the Lark Theater, 549 Magnolia Ave. in Larkspur. Admission is free. The evening will include a question-and-answer session followed by time to meet candidates individually, according to the event's Eventbrite listing.

The Oct. 1 forum moves to Drake's Landing Community Room in Greenbrae and will follow the same Q&A-and-meet-the-candidates format, according to the Eventbrite listing.

Three council seats are on the ballot. Incumbents Stephanie Andre and Sarah Margulies filed for reelection, according to the Marin Independent Journal. The term of Councilmember Catherine Way is also expiring; she did not file for reelection, according to Marin County's official candidate list.

Five challengers entered the race: Jeanne Friedel, Aaron Burnett, Spencer Doyle, Gareth Walter and Brian Jaffe. The Larkspur Community Foundation called it the city's "largest ever field of candidates" in a Facebook post promoting the forums.

The nomination period ran from July 13 through Aug. 7, with an extension to Aug. 12 if an incumbent did not file, according to the city's election page.

Voters will also decide on a separate ballot measure authorizing a special tax for paramedic services through the Ross Valley Paramedic Authority (RVPA).

The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 3. The Sept. 9 forum is free and open to the public, with registration available on Eventbrite.
