Hikers in Tiburon's open space should expect intermittent trail closures through September as Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) uses helicopters to replace three utility poles.

The work began Tuesday, Sept. 1, with initial activity on the roadway near Sugarloaf Drive, according to a Town of Tiburon notice published Monday, Aug. 31. Crews plan to replace one pole at 98 Sugarloaf Drive and two poles behind 112 Lyford Drive. The project is expected to run through the end of the month.

The Sugarloaf Drive pole replacement is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 23.

Trail sections connecting the two work sites will be closed each time the helicopter enters or exits the area, the town said. The notice did not specify which trails would be affected or how long each closure would last.

Residents on Sugarloaf Drive will keep full access to enter and exit the street throughout the project. Brief traffic delays of a few minutes may occur while crews reposition equipment on the road.

The town described the pole replacements as necessary infrastructure work. No specific date for the two Lyford Drive pole replacements has been announced.
